Over 40 Years of Integrity, Professionalism
and Exceptional C-Store Audits

Current President Ray Crook founded Quantum Services in 1971 under the name Accurate Inventory and Calculating Service, Inc. (AICS Inc.).

Early clients included A&P, Harts Department Stores and U Totem convenience stores. Then, in the late 70s the company started providing service to SuperAmerica – a new c-store chain owned by Ashland Petroleum.  At the time, SuperAmerica was on the cutting edge of the convenience store industry, building bigger stores, investing heavily in hiring and training their employees, and providing an exceptional experience for their customers. The relationship with SuperAmerica proved to be instrumental in the growth and direction of AICS.

Finding the Right Niche

In the early 80s Ray established a new vision for AICS: “To be the best service possible for the convenience store industry.  Period.”

Ray quickly identified that convenience stores required a different level of accuracy and service than other retailers due to their 24-hour nature and higher risk of shrink losses. Many c-store chains were dissatisfied with the services they were getting from inventory audit companies at that time. So in the early 80s Ray established a new vision for AICS: “To be the best service possible for the convenience store industry.  Period.” This meant re-engineering the whole company to focus exclusively on c-stores and resulted in new audit processes, audit reporting, hiring and training of people, and offering full time work with benefits.

New Name, Same Focus

Shortly after focusing solely on the convenience store industry, Ray discovered that there were more than two-dozen inventory companies with the word “Accurate Inventory” in their name and there was confusion as to which Accurate Inventory AICS was.  Wanting to further differentiate AICS from the competition, Ray changed the name to Quantum Services in 1984.

Making Training a Priority

To this day, this emphasis continues with more than 5% of every sales dollar reinvested in the training and development of our teams.

In the early 90s Ray participated in an intensive management competency workshop in NYC sponsored by the American Management Association (AMA).  From this experience, Ray became convinced that Quantum Services needed to make significant investments in the training and development of the audit teams and staff.  He hired Ed Powers, a management consultant for AMA and professor at NYU, to help Quantum services create a curriculum of classes and training that further established Quantum Services as the premier provider of the best trained auditors in the business.  To this day, this emphasis continues with more than 5% of every sales dollar reinvested in the training and development of our teams.  This level of training is unmatched in the industry.
